In Vanitas (Theater der Klänge, 2012) there was a scene, “Prinzessin und Erinnerung” (Princess and Memory) which was rearranged and -directed as a dance-movie by Jörg Lensing. For the soundtrack I had the opportunity to work with the Alinde string quartet, directed by Johannes Marx, so that I was able to re-work the interactive electronics […]

Music for Vanitas (2012, interactive music for dance and theatre)
Vanitas was a piece by Theater der Klänge about, well, vanity. It was also the piece for the 25th birthday of Theater der Klänge. There is an entry about Vanitas on Theater der Klänge’s Website which features a video of a dance-film made from a scene of the production (with music obviously not by me, […]
RobCross4all (2012, Installation)
RobCross was a scene from HOEReograpien. For the exhibition for the celebration of Theater der Klänge’s 25th birthday I rewrote it to be an interactive installation. It was also used in 2019 on the exhibition of the Bauhaus related works of Theater der Klänge at the ACC gallery in Weimar and the Theatermuseum Düsseldorf
Live Electronics for Dietrich Hahne’s “Messiaen pict/depict” (2011)
Dietrich Hahne got a commission by Philharmonie Essen for a big work of visualization of the works of Olivier Messiaen. He also composed a number of Interludes for trombone and live electronics. I was his “subcontractor” for these live electronics and the final spatialization. More can be seen (but not heard) on Dietrich’s website
Revelations and a terrace talk (2010, 4-channel audio)
I wanted to generate all sonic material from one source withour revealing it too much. I recorded a single note on a piano, made a fourier transform of it and used only very high partials for the retransformation, also heavily time stretching or compressing it during the process. After having already prepared material for most […]
Suite Intermediale (2010, Theater der Klänge, Interactive Electronics)
With Suite Intermediale I feel that the development that started in 1993 with Figur und Klang im Raum, where we first tried to make music and pictures dependent on what the dancers do on stage, finally reached a goal. Using only one camera to watch the movements, and only registering a level of supposed activity […]
5 Kleine Stücke über die kleine Laute eines kleinen Menschen (1997, 2-Channel audio)
in 1997 my first son was born and brought a completely new kind of sonic reality into our home. Reason enough to make a piece of it. (As so many parent-composers before and after me did). It was selected to be performed at the International Computer Music Conference 1998 in Ann Arbour, Michigan and published […]
The Bad Boys were Prodding the Bear through the Bars of the Cage (1985, 4-channel tape)
While I was still studying composition, I developed my own language for computer aided composition, “ppp”. With this program I could generate data-sequences, that, after appropriate conversion to voltage, were able to control the huge modular synthesizer SynLab, that was (and still is) hosted at the electronic studio of the Folkwang Hochschule (today Folkwang University […]
